About Us

About BHYFS

At Beyond Horizons Youth and Family Services, we believe every child and family deserves the chance to thrive, regardless of the challenges they face. What makes us different is our person-centred, developmentally focused, holistic, and family-driven therapeutic approach to care. We walk alongside families and young people, recognising their strengths, values, and culture, while tailoring support that nurtures long-term growth, safety, and independence. Our work is culturally aware and inclusive, ensuring that the voices and traditions of families guide the way supports are delivered.

We also recognise the systemic gaps that exist in the child protection system, where families can often feel unseen or unsupported. Our mission is to address these gaps by fostering culturally safe practices, strengthening family and kinship connections, and advocating for early intervention that prevents children from reaching crisis point and provide safe therapeutic environment to grow. By embedding cultural respect, governance, and accountability into everything we do, Beyond Horizons seeks to transform outcomes and create real opportunities for children and families to go beyond their limits and build a future full of hope.

Our Story

Beyond Horizons Youth and Family Services (BHYFS) was created from a shared commitment to improving the lives of children, young people and families who may be experiencing some of the most challenging periods of their lives.

Through our experience working across the community services, youth, disability and family support sectors, we recognised the importance of providing care that goes beyond simply meeting a young person’s immediate needs. Children and young people need to feel safe, heard, respected and supported by people who genuinely care about their future.

This understanding became the foundation of Beyond Horizons Youth and Family Services.

Based in Shepparton, Victoria, BHYFS was established to provide safe, stable and nurturing environments for children and young people who are unable to live safely within their family home. Our aim is to create homes and support services where young people can develop positive relationships, build confidence, maintain important connections and begin looking beyond their current circumstances toward a more hopeful future.

We believe every young person has their own story, strengths, culture and aspirations. Our approach is therefore centred around the individual. We work collaboratively with young people, families, carers, Child Protection, community organisations and other professionals to provide consistent and coordinated support.

BHYFS is committed to trauma-informed, culturally safe and child-centred practice. Operating on Yorta Yorta Country, we recognise the importance of connection to family, community, culture and Country, particularly for Aboriginal children and young people. We are committed to ensuring these connections are respected and supported throughout the care we provide.

Our organisation was built around a simple belief: a young person’s circumstances should never determine the limits of their future.

At Beyond Horizons Youth and Family Services, we aim to provide more than a placement. We aim to provide stability, belonging, opportunity and the support young people need to move confidently toward the next chapter of their lives.

Our Story

Beyond Horizons Youth & Family Services was established with a clear purpose: to create safe, supportive and nurturing environments where children and young people can move beyond the circumstances that have shaped their lives and build towards a positive future.

Our organisation was founded on extensive experience across child and youth services, out-of-home care, health, disability, family services and community support. This experience has shaped our understanding that meaningful care is about much more than providing a placement — it is about creating stability, building trusted relationships and giving young people genuine opportunities to grow.

We believe every child and young person deserves to feel safe, valued, heard and supported. Our approach is person-centred, trauma-informed and culturally responsive, with each young person’s strengths, identity, relationships and aspirations at the centre of their care.

Beyond Horizons was built on the belief that a young person’s current circumstances should never define the limits of their future.

Our goal is to provide the care, consistency and encouragement young people need to heal, develop confidence and look beyond today towards what is possible.
